Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 – City car


The brand Alto from Maruti stables needs no introduction as it has been the country’s largest selling car since its first lift-off in 2006. Alto K10, a rather contemporary version of the original Alto 800 came out in the year 2010. The K10 came equipped with the K-series engine along with a number of internal and external make-over. Alto K10 came to be a more preferred and popular car than the standard Alto in terms of engine power, fuel efficiency, driveability and pricing. Maruti Alto K10 looks very much like the normal Alto and has taken several cues from Maruti Zen as well. Its small size makes it an easy to manoeuvre vehicle in congested roads and parking lots. The latest model gets new headlights, body coloured bumpers, an extended nose and stylish fog lamps. Maruti offers Alto K10 in six attractive colours – Fire Brick Red, Midnight Black, Sunlight Copper, Ecru Beige, Silky Silver and Superior White.


Though K10 looks very compact, the dual tone cabin is quite spacious. The dashboard is more attractive now with silver accents. K10 has comfort features like climate control unit with heater, front power windows, vanity mirror, sun visor, ash tray, accessory socket, cup holder and rear parcel tray. And finally the new model also gets a stereo with CD/USB/Aux/Radio connectivity.


The Alto K10 is powered by a 998 cc, 3 cylinder petrol engine that produces 68 bhp of power and 90 Nm of torque coupled with a five speed manual transmission gear box. ARAI has rated fuel efficiency of this car at 20.2 kmpl on highways and 15-16 kmpl within city limits. The CNG model promises a matchless mileage of 32.26 kmpl. The latest model with Auto Gear Shift controls the clutch engagement and the gear shifting at optimal timings. This gives the driverall the comfort of driving an automatic car along with the fuel efficiency of a manual transmission.


The car has a McPherson Strut suspension, which also comes with a coil spring gas filled shocks. This helps in a smooth ride on all terrain. Braking power is provided by well responsive front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. However the widely appreciated anti-lock braking system is missing here and also the car is not very comfortable on high speeds.
